What the allowance covers

Dictation itself runs on your Mac and is not part of the allowance. The allowance covers the features that use Claude (Anthropic) through Habla’s shared AI:

• AI clean-up of longer dictations
• Instruct and Transforms
• Meeting notes and answers about your meetings

Short phrases are tidied on your Mac and never count.

How the allowance works

• Each Mac gets a daily allowance, which resets at midnight UTC.
• There is also a limit per internet connection, so a busy home or office shares a ceiling.
• The allowance is set to cover normal personal use with plenty to spare.
• The shared AI also has an overall daily budget. On a rare busy day it may pause for everyone until midnight UTC.

If you reach it

Nothing stops working. Your words still get typed, with a simpler tidy done on your Mac, and AI features come back the next day. If you regularly need more, add your own Anthropic API key in Settings: Habla then talks to Anthropic directly, the allowance no longer applies, and use is billed to your Anthropic account.

What counts as fair

Habla is for your own dictation, writing and meetings. Please don’t:

• use the shared AI from scripts, bots or other software
• try to get around the limits, for example by resetting Habla or rotating connections
• use it to run a service for other people

If use looks automated or abusive, the shared AI may be paused for that Mac or connection.

What we keep

To apply the allowance, Habla’s relay records usage counts only: the date, a random ID for your Mac (not linked to you), your IP address, the number of requests, tokens used and the cost. It never stores what you say or write. Your text is passed to Anthropic to process the request. To keep everything on your Mac, turn shared AI off in Settings. To skip the relay, add your own key and Habla goes to Anthropic directly.

Changes

Running the shared AI costs real money. If that changes how it can work, the allowance may change or a paid option may be added. Dictation on your Mac stays free, and this page will be updated before anything changes.
